About The Position

Roadway Design Engineer The Roadway Design Engineer is a mid-level professional responsible for independently delivering roadway and multimodal design elements and contributing to the successful execution of transportation projects. This role applies professional judgment, coordinates with multidisciplinary teams, and supports project managers in meeting scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • 5+ years of roadway or transportation design experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of roadway and multimodal design standards and practices.
  • Proficiency in roadway design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar tools.
  • Experience with 3D design software such as Civil3D, OpenRoads, or similar tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with stormwater drainage analysis and design and irrigation design.
  • Experience serving as a task lead or discipline lead on transportation projects.
  • Experience with complex urban roadway projects, roundabouts, or multimodal corridors.
  • Familiarity with construction staging, traffic control, and constructability considerations.
  • Interest in long-term technical leadership or project management growth.

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop roadway and multimodal design solutions from concept through final design.
  • Preparing and overseeing production of construction plans, technical specifications, quantities, and cost estimates.
  • Applying design standards and exercising sound engineering judgment to resolve complex design challenges.
  • Coordinating roadway design with drainage, irrigation, traffic, utilities, structures, and environmental disciplines.
  • Supporting project managers with task planning, schedule management, and budget tracking.
  • Performing quality control reviews of roadway design deliverables prepared by others.
  • Leading coordination with agencies, clients, and project stakeholders on technical design issues.
  • Responding to agency comments and leading design revisions through approval.
  • Mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior engineers and engineering associates.
  • Participating in field reviews, constructability reviews, and construction support activities.
