About The Position

AAA Northeast is seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Roadside Assistance Driver - Battery to join our team. This full-time position offers competitive hourly pay with additional differentials for evening, overnight, and weekend shifts. As a Battery Service Technician, you will be responsible for providing safe and best-in-class roadside service solutions for AAA members, ensuring positive member experiences. Your role will involve responding to member requests, assessing scene safety, educating members on vehicle issues, and performing services such as jump starts, flat tire replacement, vehicle entries, battery testing, installation, and replacement. You will also promote AAA products and services, achieve performance standards for service completion and member satisfaction, and maintain the service vehicle and equipment. Requirements

  • High School GED required
  • At least 21 years of age required
  • Active and valid driver’s license issued by only one state or jurisdiction required
  • Able to obtain and maintain a minimum of one-year DOT card pre-hire and as a current employee required
  • Satisfactorily pass a motor vehicle record check during pre-hire screening and periodically during employment in accordance with policy

Nice To Haves

  • Post-secondary training in automotive mechanics
  • Familiarity of electrical troubleshooting is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Respond to Member’s request for service, accepting calls and responding to Dispatch or members with ETA to destination.
  • Call members to clarify the location and the potential vehicle issue when appropriate.
  • Locate members and assess the safety of the scene on arrival to ensure the vehicle is in a safe location to provide service.
  • Greet members and take action, as necessary, to deal with their emotional state.
  • Effectively communicate all aspects of the battery program clearly to the member, including the importance of testing the battery, reinforcing the benefits of the program, and recommending the appropriate battery type.
  • Report results of all diagnostic testing to the member, explaining what additional repairs may be necessary and providing referrals to AAR-approved facilities.
  • Maintain minimum performance standards in conversion, testing, and installs.
  • Respond to dispatch calls and perform diagnostic testing on a variety of disabled vehicle systems including electrical, battery, starting, charging, ignition, and fuel delivery.
  • Make a preliminary determination of the best course of action based on all information collected about the situation.
  • Ask for assistance if unsure about a certain situation.
  • Perform battery testing on member’s vehicles utilizing specialized battery testing equipment.
  • If necessary, perform maintenance on battery terminals, determine whether the battery needs boosting or replacement.
  • Provide battery boost as appropriate; perform proper maintenance on battery terminals, utilizing hazardous materials training; install appropriate batteries on-the-spot; follow all safety procedures in accordance to Club policies and procedures.
  • If towing is required, call for tow.
  • Maintain AAA high standard of service and image.
  • Maintain service vehicle and equipment in good safe working order (conducts safety checks); maintain an inventory of tools and products to ensure all service calls can be completed.
  • Follow temporarily repaired vehicles to ensure member safety or transport members to their destination if the vehicle is to be towed.
  • Operate laptop computer to record van activity, invoicing, cash and credit receipts, and inventory.
  • Inspect and maintain the appearance and general mechanical condition of the assigned vehicle; restock sold batteries, test new stock to ensure the condition of batteries; dispose of obsolete batteries following procedures for disposal of hazardous waste; inventory all electronic testing equipment.
  • Certify to operate a Battery Service Vehicle by attending the required training prior and refreshers annually.
