Road Supervisors provide direct oversight of vehicle operators on the street. This role requires flexibility with schedules, including split shifts, weekends, and holidays. The supervisor ensures operators are fit for duty, meet uniform and equipment standards, and possess proper licensing. They assist dispatch and maintenance with vehicle change-outs, help operators with service or passenger issues, and conduct site checks and road observations. The role involves monitoring street operations for on-time performance and schedule adherence, providing feedback on safety and performance issues, identifying potential safety hazards, and ensuring adherence to company safety and operational rules. The position requires the ability to work under stress, meet strict timelines, and communicate effectively using a 2-way radio. Adherence to SFRTA policy, handling emergency bus bridges and special events, monitoring service operations, and overseeing pull-outs and pull-ins are also key responsibilities. The supervisor will investigate vehicle accidents, inspect vehicles for damage and safety compliance, observe driver skills and work habits, and support systems for maintaining employee, equipment, compliance, and maintenance records. The Road Supervisor may also act as a vehicle operator when needed.
