About The Position

This position is responsible for performing general outside maintenance duties including mowing, weed eating, and watering throughout the County's properties. The employee will be responsible for safely driving and operating County equipment used in road maintenance and clearing of county road rights-of-way. This position is designated as a "safety sensitive position" and requires the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

Requirements

  • High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area (e.g., mowing equipment, road clearing equipment operation).
  • 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have or be able to immediately obtain a valid Arkansas Driver's License.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment job-related physical and traffic offense check.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Regular use of complex machines and equipment (road and production machines and equipment, driver's license/cdl, etc.).
  • Continuous use of hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit, taste or smell.
  • Frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Nice To Haves

  • In-house training available for Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A.

Responsibilities

  • Mowing, clearing bushes and trees in the County rights-of-way.
  • Up-keep of County properties.
  • Setting up signage and markers for road repair and flagging traffic during road maintenance.
  • Operating hand tools such as a chain saw for clearing County rights-of-way.
  • Shoveling gravel and other fill or surfacing material from truck to areas being repaired.
  • Transporting materials for repair work.
  • Repairing or replacing road signs and poles.
  • Attending department meetings, functions, and training.
  • Performing any other related duties as required or assigned.
