About The Position

Lee County is seeking a dependable Road Construction Equipment Operator to join our Roadway Construction team. This is a hands-on, outdoor position for someone who enjoys physical work, operating equipment, solving problems, and seeing the results of their efforts every day. As part of our roadway construction crew, you will help build, repair, and maintain the roads, sidewalks, and drainage systems that keep residents, visitors, and businesses moving safely throughout Lee County. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • One (1) year of experience operating heavy equipment or performing similar construction work
  • Ability to perform manual labor tasks associated with roadway construction, including lifting, carrying, standing, walking, and operating equipment.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and work in a safety-sensitive environment
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and equipment safely
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work well with team members
  • Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions
  • Candidates must obtain a Florida Class B Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) before applying for this position.
  • Candidates with an out-of-state Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) must obtain a Florida-issued CDL within sixty (60) days of relocating to Florida.
  • After hire, the selected candidate must obtain a Florida Class B Commercial Driver’s License within six (6) months.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, rollers, concrete saws, chipping hammers, and other construction equipment
  • Install, replace, and repair drainage pipes, catch basins, and related roadway systems
  • Build and repair sidewalks, driveways, and sod areas
  • Load dump trucks and pickup trucks with trailers
  • Mix and place concrete for sidewalk repairs
  • Set up and maintain Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) work zones
  • Grind uneven sidewalks and improve pedestrian safety
  • Clear trees, brush, and debris from roadway areas
  • Remove debris from catch basins and clean pipe ends by hand
  • Perform repairs in tight spaces, including basin and manhole work
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment safely
  • Work independently while supporting a team focused on safety and quality
