About The Position

Plans and delivers professional nursing care to patients. This role involves providing care under the direction of a physician, mentoring new staff and students, and performing acts within the scope of practice defined by the applicable licensing board. The position requires demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary for patient care, accurately evaluating patient needs, and maintaining a comprehensive care plan. Key responsibilities include promoting patient independence by setting care goals and involving patients and families in discussions about medical issues, testing, medications, and self-care skills. The role also involves accurate administration and evaluation of medications, management of medication orders, and timely delivery of medications. Educating patients and families on physical, emotional, and psychosocial aspects of care, disease processes, symptom and pain management, and signs of death is crucial. The position requires timely and accurate documentation, observation of patients' conditions, and reporting changes. Adherence to the Health System's mission, vision, and values, as well as HIPAA regulations regarding Protected Health Information (PHI), is mandatory. Maintaining effective communication and professional working relationships with all stakeholders is essential. Additionally, the role includes performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas or compact state.
  • Current BLS/CPR card from approved provider within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation, whichever comes first.
  • Ability to apply the basic principles of nursing.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Keyboarding skills and basic computer skills.
  • Multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
  • Heavy Work: Occasionally exerting up to 100 lbs - constantly exerting up to 20 lbs. 51-75% of the day may be standing or walking.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Previous experience in a similar environment
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, NIHSS, AWHONN may be required per department/entity policy.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients as described in unit/department-based competencies, policies, and procedures.
  • Accurately evaluate patient needs and review/maintain a comprehensive care plan within scope
  • Promotes patient’s independence by establishing patient care goals and including the patient and family in discussions regarding medical issues, testing, medications, and self-care skills.
  • Provide for accurate administration and evaluation of medication, management of medication orders, and delivery of medication to patients in a timely manner.
  • Educate the patient/family on physical, emotional and psychosocial aspects of care, disease process, symptom and pain management, and signs and symptoms of death (when appropriate).
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation as per Health System/affiliate policy.
  • Observes the patients’ physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual conditions and reports any changes as directed.
  • Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.
  • Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
