About The Position

Recovery Network of Programs, Inc. (RNP) is a private, non-profit, social service agency serving the Greater Bridgeport Community and Fairfield County area since 1972. RNP is dedicated to helping individuals and families facing substance use disorders, mental health disorders, and homelessness, with a mission to restore hope, health, and wellbeing. The Center for Human Services (CHS) in Stratford, Connecticut, is a CARF accredited, Department of Public Health licensed medication-assisted treatment program for opiate-addicted persons. The program utilizes prescribed methadone or buprenorphine/suboxone, along with supportive counseling and other referral services. Clients receive individual counseling for various issues, and group, family, and intensive outpatient services are available. Psychiatric care is also accessible. This role, under the supervision of the Department Director, involves providing general direction and supervision to departmental staff and potentially managing a caseload of clients with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health issues.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse degree required.
  • Substantial specialized judgment and skill in observation, care, and counsel of the ill.
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision and to assume initiative.
  • Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding client confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to project a professional image.
  • Current State of Connecticut Nurse's License required.
  • Valid Connecticut driver's license may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in detox or similar community-based substance abuse treatment organization preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Dispenses, documents, and reports all medication doses in accordance with approved nursing techniques, program policies and procedures, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Completes nursing assessments with patients seeking admissions to the program.
  • Maintains documentation and accurate count of medication.
  • Prepares and accounts for prescribed medication orders.
  • Verifies, updates, records, and files doctors' orders and dosage levels in client records.
  • Ensures that clients receive required history and physical exam and necessary emergency medical or prenatal care.
  • Obtains vital signs as ordered by a physician.
  • Observes clients, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or physician of client's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
  • Participates in department staff meetings, treatment team meetings, medication change meetings, and quality assurance and improvement activities.
  • Obtains PPD record and/or administers PPD to clients and maintains a record of results.
  • Maintains daily census log, 24-hour shift report, Medication Administration Record, and vital sign documents.
  • Assumes all other appropriate duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
