About The Position

This is a 13-week temporary assignment for an RN in the Smithfield ED, working nights. The RN works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and Director, responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of total nursing care for assigned patients. The role involves utilizing communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to create patient care plans that consider physiological, psychosocial, and cultural diversity. The RN is also responsible for supervising and delegating tasks to non-professional personnel to ensure optimal patient care. Competence in addressing age-related needs of specific patient populations within Critical Care/Telemetry units/departments is required. The RN works under the direction of leadership and a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive services in accordance with Riverside Health System's standards and goals.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma is minimum education requirement, Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Nursing accepted in lieu of Nursing Diploma
  • High School Diploma or GED, HS Diploma/GED only required if Nursing Diploma Graduate
  • 2 years ED RN Experience for all TEMP positions
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) or compact state Upon Hire
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire
  • ACLS Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required 1 yr RRMC) within 90 Days

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates ability to assess patient clinical and psychosocial needs by applying standards of practice as it relates to the specialty or patient population served in the Critical Care/Telemetry units/departments.
  • Partners with patients and families to develop, implement and evaluate plan of care, treatments and procedures that contribute to the physiological and psychosocial outcomes of the patient.
  • Assesses and incorporates evidence-based standards of practice.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team in the coordination care.
  • Facilitates safe patient transitions to the next care setting as part of plan of care.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput to assure patients receive consistent, competent, and ethical care.
  • Focuses on quality outcomes of patient care when addressing customer’s needs to include current evidence based practice and quality measures.
  • Demonstrates understanding of diverse patient care populations and ability to modify education method to ensure patient/family comprehension.
  • Educates by assuming responsibility to individualize and coordinate patient education, and discharge specific education that includes family/caregiver.
  • Evaluates for patient comprehension and documents.
  • Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to delegate and prioritize tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and ensure patient care needs are met.
  • Able to recognize and respond to emergency situations.
  • Evaluates own needs for support and uses identified systems to meet need.
