JOB SUMMARY: A wound care nurse primarily evaluates and manages patients with wounds caused by disease, accidents, or surgical incisions. Work with medical teams to assess and monitor a patient’s progress during the healing phase. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned.) § Treat any skin infections or conditions as directed by the attending physician § Provide feedback to physician with regard to condition or changes in wound § Treat Chronic Wounds: bedsores, abscesses, and ulcerations are considered “chronic wounds” and require special care. § The wound care nurse is responsible to educate coworkers on how to care for their wounds in their absence § Assess wounds via formal Wound assessment. Including notating type of wound, if debridement (dead tissue removal) is required, consult with physician and follow instructions for further treatment e.g., antibiotics, medications, drains.. § Updates Nurse logs and care plans for patient as required § Assures that established infection control and universal precautions are maintained when performing duties. § Performs other duties as assigned.
