About The Position

To provide direct and indirect nursing services to patients and families. This role involves utilizing systematic planning, appropriate methods, and timely exchange of information with the multidisciplinary team and patient/family to coordinate care. The nurse will demonstrate the ability to focus on and manage multiple patient needs and aspects of care, actively communicating with the care team to plan patient care and utilizing available resources to problem-solve and determine the most effective approach to action. The position requires the use of the nursing process and a critical thinking approach to provide patient care that incorporates the mind, body, and spirit; is individualized, goal-directed, and consistent with current standards of safety. The nurse will identify actual/potential problems for which the patient is at risk, continuously evaluate interventions and care, and adjust the plan as patient and family needs change. They will identify the need for referrals, collaborate with the patient, family, and other team members to develop a comprehensive plan of care, and prioritize demand for resources. Additionally, the role may involve acting as a preceptor/teacher for other nurses and making appropriate referrals. The nurse will implement safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients with complex needs, demonstrate accountability for achieving patient outcomes, and quickly recognize patient diagnoses. Documentation will be per department/entity guidelines and reflect a critical thinking/problem-oriented approach. The role also includes delegating/assigning and communicating expectations for care delivery processes, assessing the appropriateness of physician orders, and helping coworkers improve performance. Establishing a therapeutic relationship with the patient and family, anticipating problems, and analyzing social/cultural variables to adapt nursing interventions are key aspects. The nurse will serve as a patient advocate, provide age-appropriate patient education, and coordinate transfer and discharge planning. The position requires independent performance of the nursing process for patients with overt and subtle needs, safe nursing care for patients in more complex situations with some assistance, and competency in unit skills and some advanced skills. Coordination of patient care administered by other members of the care team is expected, and the nurse may assume responsibility as a relief charge nurse and assist with preceptorship/professional development. Safe use of common equipment and medications, recognition of inconsistencies in patient care, management of potential complications, consistent organization and prioritization of workload, and confident management of emergency situations are also required. Participation in quality improvement initiatives, compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and demonstration of professional behavior are expected. The nurse will utilize a variety of teaching/coaching strategies, promote clinical effectiveness, efficient use of resources, and quality care, and transfer knowledge and mentor others. Complex problem-solving and critical thinking skills are essential.

Requirements

  • Graduate of nursing school.
  • 1 Year clinical experience
  • California Registered Nurse (RN) - CA Board of Registered Nursing -REQUIRED
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED
