About The Position

The IV Therapy team at MGH is a highly skilled group of nursing professionals who provide a key clinical service to our patients. Members of the health care team collaborate to achieve the universal goal of safe, effective, and appropriate infusion therapy and vascular access. Nurses perform independent nursing interventions related to infusion therapy and vascular access using appropriate clinical reasoning, nursing judgment, and critical decision-making skills. This role serves as the primary response team for vascular access needs, including intraosseous insertions during rapid responses and codes. RN’s are highly valued by the staff nurses whom they support and partner with. Requirements

  • Associate's Degree Nursing required or Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred
  • Clinical nursing experience 0-1 year required
  • Registered Nurse [RN - State License] - Generic - HR Only required
  • Familiarity with the principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment.
  • Knowledgeable of the care required by respective age groups for which care is being provided.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and secure sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately screen and triage acute patients.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two years placing IV's.
  • Ultrasound guided IV experience preferred.
  • VABC or CRNI certification or eligibility preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate, detailed reports, and records.
  • Administer medications to patients and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.
  • Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
  • Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
  • Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
  • Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
  • Provide individualized nursing care.
  • Evaluate nursing care for groups of patients.
  • Perform independent nursing interventions related to infusion therapy and vascular access using appropriate clinical reasoning, nursing judgment, and critical decision-making skills.
  • Serve as the primary response team for vascular access needs including intraosseous insertions during rapid responses and codes.
  • Provide education to and build relationships throughout the hospital.
