About The Position

The Registered Nurse Unit Manager, RN is responsible for performing professional supervision, guidance, and direction to staff in both clinical and personnel issues on the Unit. This role is crucial for developing and maintaining nursing practice and standards consistent with the facility's philosophy. The Nurse Unit Manager also represents the Nursing Department to other departments and coordinates services. Key responsibilities include coordinating resident care according to State DOH regulations, providing support to residents and families, ensuring staff adherence to safety and infection control guidelines, and assisting in the daily operations of resident care. This involves overseeing tasks such as showers/baths, toileting, meals, medication administration, and activities. The role requires effective communication with the Interdisciplinary Team to meet resident and family needs, performing daily resident rounds, conducting assessments (Admission, Elopement, Pain, etc.), developing and documenting plans of care, and reporting findings to the Nursing Supervisor. The RN Unit Manager also prepares resident assignments for CNAs, monitors their performance, and ensures documentation is completed. They will orient new nursing personnel and perform other related duties as assigned. Betsy Ross Nursing & Rehab Center is a 120-bed facility offering excellence in rehabilitation and skilled nursing care, recently renovated, under new management and administration, with a focus on rehabilitation and recovery.

Requirements

Must be a graduate of an approved school of nursing.
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or three (3) years’ experience in long term care
Current licensure in NYS as a Registered Professional Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory capacity either in a hospital, long term care facility, or other related medical facility
Training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practice.
Must have a sincere desire to work with the elderly, chronically ill, and disabled.
Must have a thorough knowledge of medical, social, and psychological needs of residents.
Must utilize good judgment in emergency situations.
Must possess a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm in order to create an atmosphere conducive to rehabilitation and growth.
Must be able to communicate well verbally with residents, families and staff.
Must be able to handle emergencies with calm and intelligent response.
Must have computer literacy.

Responsibilities

Perform professional supervision, guidance and direction to staff in both clinical and personnel issues on the Unit.
Develop and maintain nursing practice and standards consistent with the overall philosophy of the facility.
Represent the Nursing Department to other departments and coordinate the services provided by other departments.
Coordinate resident care in accordance with State DOH regulations.
Provide support to resident/families in dealing with clinical issues and challenges.
Ensure staff adheres to safety and infection control guidelines.
Assist in establishing daily operations of resident care on unit, including showers/baths, toileting, meal, medication administration and activities.
Communicate to other members of the Interdisciplinary Team pertinent information to assure resident/family needs are met.
Perform daily rounds of all residents on the unit.
Perform assessments on residents as required by the facility (Admission, Elopement, Pain, etc.).
Develop plan of care for each resident.
Document and communicate plan of care on Resident Information Sheets.
Document clinical observation and assessment on all assigned residents per regulations.
Report findings of ongoing observations/assessments to the designated Nursing Supervisor.
Document effectiveness of plan of care.
Prepare resident assignments for Certified Nursing Assistants, considering the category of needs of the patient and competency of personnel.
Communicate ongoing resident, family and facility plan/concerns/information to staff.
Organize, oversee and supervise assigned unit activities and staff assignments.
Provide a Nursing Assistant assignment for each CNA on his/her team.
Communicate to CNA pertinent resident care needs.
Monitor and evaluate the flow of activity and delivery of patient care provided by the CNA’s (turning and positioning, mealtimes, bathing, etc.).
Ensure CNA documentation records (ADL’s BM, Meal intake, etc.) are completed.
Communicate to the Interdisciplinary Team members any pertinent resident findings.
Assist other staff members in completion of their duties.
Orient new Nursing personnel as assigned.
Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
