About The Position

As a Registered Nurse in the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), you will provide safe, compassionate, and comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with complex medical and cardiac conditions who require a higher level of monitoring and care than a traditional medical-surgical setting. The 40-bed IMCU cares for patients with cardiac conditions, stroke, and multi-organ dysfunction. You will perform comprehensive assessments, recognize changes in patient condition, develop and implement individualized care plans, administer medications and treatments, and evaluate patient responses to care. You will work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to coordinate care and promote positive patient outcomes. You will follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and appropriately delegate tasks based on patient condition, staff competency, and scope of practice.

Requirements

  • Grad of an Accredited Program
  • Specialized field of study should be nursing.
  • RN license.
  • Must have BLS certification or get it within 30 days of starting in this role.

  • Basic computer skills, including electronic medical documentation, email, Microsoft Office, and other hospital systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.
  • Create, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans and adjust interventions based on patient response.
  • Provide care to adult patients with complex medical and cardiac conditions, including patients with stroke and multi-organ dysfunction.
  • Closely monitor patients and recognize changes in condition, escalating concerns and interventions appropriately to promote patient safety.
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, and other treatments according to patient needs and established standards of care.
  • Build therapeutic relationships with patients and families while managing discomfort and maintaining professionalism.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, and ongoing healthcare needs. Assess and document learning needs and patient understanding.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to develop and coordinate individualized plans of care.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately based on patient condition, staff competency, and scope of practice, while following up to ensure care is completed safely and effectively.
  • Use critical-thinking and problem-solving skills to identify patient needs, prioritize care, and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment by supporting peers, participating in professional development, and promoting quality and patient safety.
