This position is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and providing high-quality, individualized patient care using the components of the nursing process. This includes performing duties in a manner that provides for the physical, psycho-social, and spiritual needs of the critically ill patient. The role involves completing initial assessments and ongoing reassessments, incorporating cultural and ethnic factors, and differentiating between normal and abnormal findings. The nurse will develop and implement individualized patient care plans, evaluate patient outcomes, and utilize a case management approach to coordinate care across the continuum. Patient safety, patient/family teaching, and effective communication within the organizational chain of command are key aspects of this role. The nurse must maintain knowledge of age-specific care for adolescent through geriatric populations, including end-of-life care, and ensure patient rights, privacy, and dignity are respected. This includes determining the presence of Advance Directives and involving patients/families in decision-making. The role also requires reporting suspected cases of abuse or neglect and demonstrating effective Team Leader/Charge Nurse skills, practicing Universal Precautions, and adapting to changing patient assignments and staffing levels.
