With nearly 17,000 team members, 3,700 affiliated providers, and close to 2,000 volunteers, HonorHealth aims to improve community health and well-being. The Registered Nurse (RN) practice is guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics, applying professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures to patient care. The RN records medical history and symptoms, assists with diagnostic tests and analysis, operates medical equipment, administers treatment and medications, and supports patient follow-up and rehabilitation. The RN establishes or contributes to care plans, which include medication administration (with dosage checks and interaction avoidance), starting/maintaining/discontinuing IV lines, administering therapies, observing and recording patient observations, and consulting with other healthcare clinicians. The RN educates patients and families on illness/injury management, post-treatment care, diet, nutrition, exercise, and self-administration of medication/therapy. The RN directs licensed practical nurses and nursing aides, supports clinical knowledge advancement, precepts new hires and students, and enhances knowledge in nursing management. The RN strives to improve patient experience, clinical outcomes, and promote a healthy work environment, practicing evidence-based nursing using a Shared Governance model. RN staff with direct responsibility for stroke patients must have specific knowledge of stroke symptoms, protocols, NIHSS, Stroke Alert, quality indicators, patient education, and resources.
