About The Position

This position is located at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center (CNRVMC) in Christiansburg, VA, working full time, Monday-Friday either 5–8-hour shifts 6:45am-3:15pm or 4-10-hour shifts 6:45-5:15 with occasional weekday/weekend/holiday call. The RN Team Lead provides clinical leadership and oversight for patient care delivery while supporting staff development, operational efficiency, and quality outcomes. This role serves as a clinical resource, mentor, and team leader to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care across assigned areas.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience including demonstrated clinical and leadership expertise required.
  • Current Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia required.
  • AHA BLS-HCP required.
  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage challenging patient situations as appropriate to role.

Nice To Haves

  • For Behavioral Health roles, de-escalation training must be completed within the required timeframe.
  • For OB/GYN roles, EFM NCC certification required.
  • ACLS, PALS, or NRP may be required based on assigned work area.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a team leader, clinical resource, mentor, and role model for staff.
  • Provides direct patient care and coordinates care delivery for patients of all ages.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Leads and mobilizes the care team to support positive patient outcomes.
  • Facilitates effective communication and resolves operational issues within the work group.
  • Supports staff development through coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback.
  • Participates in performance evaluations and contributes to development planning.
  • Assists with staffing, scheduling, and workload distribution to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Collaborates with leadership on fiscal management, resource allocation, and budget considerations.
  • Participates in performance improvement, patient satisfaction, and quality initiatives.
  • Conducts team meetings and promotes a positive, accountable work environment.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory, licensure, and accreditation standards.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, staff, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Maintains confidentiality and exercises sound judgment in handling sensitive information.
  • Supports organizational initiatives and adapts to changing priorities.
  • Responds to staffing needs, including supporting other Carilion facilities as required.
