About The Position

The SWAT (Skilled Workforce Adaptable Team ) RN is an expert clinical nurse who serves as a critical resource across Meritus Medical Center’s inpatient units. As part of our hospital-wide rapid response and support team, SWAT RNs provide high-level, flexible, and responsive nursing care wherever it’s needed most. This role is ideal for nurses who are confident in their clinical skills, enjoy variety, and excel in fast-paced, high-acuity settings. SWAT RNs are integral in supporting unit staff during surges, responding to patient emergencies, and ensuring continuity of care across the organization.

Requirements

  • ASN or higher required.
  • A minimum of 3 -5 years as an RN in an acute care setting required with at least 2 years in Critical Care, Emergency Room, or equivalent experience required.
  • Current license to practice as Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland, or if resident of a state that participates in Nurse Multi-State Compact agreement, holds Registered Nurse license from that state that is designated as “Compact” or “Multi-State Privilege” using primary source verification and provides additional documentation as required by the Maryland Board of Nursing. RN license from a compact state with a designation of “Single State” does not meet the requirement and nurse must obtain a Maryland license.
  • Current BLS (CPR) in compliance with policy.
  • Current ACLS is required for entry into this position.
  • PALS in compliance with policy required.
  • Basic Dysrhythmia and Procedural Sedation competency within one year.
  • TNCC within 2 years
  • NIH certification
  • Violence Prevention or CSI training
  • IO insertion competency
  • Procedural sedation including pediatric section annually
  • Maintain ICU/ED and pediatric competencies as set for within the organization.
  • Strong team work ethic while also able to work independently with minimal supervision or direction.
  • Ability to work in stressful environments while maintaining a professional attitude in communication with staff, medical providers, and other members of the team.
  • Ability to apply the standards of professional nursing practice with compassion and empathy.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Must process high level of organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain objectivity and confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or higher Preferred.
  • Professional certification in area of clinical specialty preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Float among various units—including critical care, medical-surgical, step-down, and emergency areas—to provide immediate and expert clinical support.
  • Respond to rapid responses, codes, and urgent patient care situations in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for diverse patient populations.
  • Assist with complex admissions, discharges, and transfers to maintain safe staffing and efficient patient flow.
  • Serve as a mentor and resource to staff nurses, promoting clinical excellence and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and quality/safety standards.
