About The Position

Corewell Health Trenton Hospital is a 193-bed, acute care teaching hospital that sponsors nine university-affiliated residency programs. This Magnet®-designated facility provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for its patients and is one of four recipients of the Truven Health Advantage Award in the category of Health and Clinical Outcomes. Here, you’ll find the only verified Level II trauma center in the region; nationally recognized heart, vascular and pulmonary specialties; a wide array of surgical services, including minimally invasive robotic procedures and orthopedic and neurosurgery services; and comprehensive women’s health services ranging from gynecological to advanced breast care. The 5 Surgical unit is a 24-bed unit with all private rooms. We primarily care for surgical and trauma patients, including bariatric, general, trauma, and gynecological patients. Although our focus is surgical and trauma related, we also care for patients with medical conditions. We are equipped to monitor up to 8 patients on portable telemetry monitors. The Surgical Unit is a wonderful place to advance in your nursing skills to include critical thinking, time management, assessment, and patient satisfaction. We are a talented and engaged team that is focused on patient safety and have maintained high-quality scores. Trenton is a Magnet Designated hospital with Level Two Trauma, and Stroke Certification. We are proud of the commitment in shared governance as it has strengthened the relationship between staff and our leadership team.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an associate degree or higher.
  • Diploma, A.D.N., B.S.N., M.S.N., DNP/PhD – if not minimum BSN prepared, new graduate/nurse with less than one (1) year experience is required to sign an educational contract upon hire to complete BSN within specified timeframe and adhere to contract stipulations.
  • RN must enroll in an accredited BSN program within one (1) year of licensure date and complete within the next five (5) years. This is effective April 18, 2023.
  • Graduates from non-accredited school of nursing programs must have at least one year of acute care experience or greater than 2 years of experience in a licensed health care role, such as an LPN or EMT role, etc., and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
  • LIC-Registered Nurse (RN) - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association required
  • CRT-Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - AHA American Heart Association Critical Care, Emergency Care, Pre-Op and PACU, Radiology 180 Days required
  • Nurses must obtain the national institute of health stroke screening (NIHSS) competency certificate within the first 30 days of orientation and ACLS certification within 6 months of employment on the unit.

Responsibilities

  • The clinical nurse, under the ANA scope of practice utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles.
  • The Clinical Nurse provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures.
