About The Position

The RN Surgical Unit Weekend Program is a specialized role designed to support staffing needs on the surgical unit during weekends. The schedule consists of every Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Hours worked during this time frame are eligible for a premium rate in addition to the base rate of pay. Corewell Health Trenton Hospital is a 193-bed, acute care teaching hospital with nine university-affiliated residency programs. This Magnet®-designated facility offers comprehensive medical and surgical care, including the region's only verified Level II trauma center, nationally recognized heart, vascular, and pulmonary specialties, a wide array of surgical services (including minimally invasive robotic procedures, orthopedic, and neurosurgery), and comprehensive women's health services. The 5 Surgical unit is a 24-bed unit with all private rooms, primarily caring for surgical and trauma patients (bariatric, general, trauma, and gynecological). The unit also cares for patients with medical conditions and is equipped to monitor up to 8 patients on portable telemetry monitors. It is described as a place to advance nursing skills in critical thinking, time management, assessment, and patient satisfaction, with a talented and engaged team focused on patient safety and high-quality scores. Trenton is a Magnet Designated hospital with Level Two Trauma and Stroke Certification, and it prides itself on shared governance.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an Associate’s degree or equivalent.
  • B.S.N., or M.S.N, or DNP/PhD - if not minimum BSN prepared, new graduate/nurse with less than one (1) year experience is required to enroll in an accredited BSN program within one (1) year of licensure date and complete within five (5) years, required. This is effective April 18, 2023.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - State of Michigan Upon Hire
  • Specialty Certification - Unknown 2 Yrs required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association Upon Hire required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Red Cross Upon Hire required
  • At least one Certification from preferred list - Unknown Canadian Heart & Stroke Upon Hire required

  • Utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles.
