Cleveland Clinic’s M81 Surgical Short Stay Unit cares for patients in need of extended recovery or observation following surgeries or procedures. This unit captures a wide variety of specialties, including endocrinology, urology, radiology, general surgery, plastics, colorectal, neurology, orthopaedic, and ophthalmology. M81 caregivers pride themselves on delivering efficient and effective workflow processes to ensure patient discharges are expedited and care is of the highest quality. Because of the variety and complexity of patients cared for, M81 offers caregivers an array of growth and learning opportunities. This unit also has an active unit-based Shared Governance and high caregiver engagement.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program)
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
- One year of current acute care RN experience. Will consider military RN experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

- Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care.
- Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.
- Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
- Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
- Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
- Educate patients and their families.
