About The Position

This role is for a Registered Nurse (RN) on the 1 South unit, which is an acute care surgical short stay unit. This unit cares for patients undergoing orthopedic, plastic surgery, general surgery, and gynecological surgical procedures. Patients are admitted after Phase II PACU and are expected to recover and be discharged either the same day or on Post-Operative Day 1. The unit also cares for patients requiring blood transfusions. Royal Oak Hospital is recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a top hospital in Michigan and nationally, serving as a major academic and referral center with Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma designations. The hospital has achieved Magnet designation four consecutive times and houses Michigan’s first Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence. The RN will utilize the nursing process and patient-family centered care principles to provide professional nursing care, including assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and discharge. The RN will deliver quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader, adhering to Corewell Health policies and procedures. They will recognize the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes, and will incorporate patient/family input and goals into the plan of care, developing and documenting patient/family education strategies.

Requirements

  • Associates or Diploma in Nursing Required.
  • Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years for GN or RN with less than 1 year of experience.
  • Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required within 60 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire from one of the following organizations - American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Canadian Heart and Stroke.

  • Develops teaching strategies for patient/family; documents education and learning appropriately in health record.
