About The Position

Will be responsible for the delivery of safe, patient - centered care in the OR, and other Perioperative areas. This position with Brodstone Healthcare is for PRN (as needed).

Requirements

  • State of Nebraska RN License or Multi-State RN License
  • BLS certification within 3 months of employment
  • ACLS within 3 months of employment
  • PALS within 3 months of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree
  • 1-2 Years in surgical nursing.
  • Bachelor's Degree

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and interprets the total nursing needs of each patient.
  • Responsible for developing a surgical conscience.
  • Implement the operative plan of care.
  • Manage patient specimens.
  • Communicate the patient’s status throughout the continuum of care.
  • Administer medications appropriately, and safely.
  • Perform interventions to maintain the patient’s wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels.
  • Perform interventions to maintain the patient’s genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular and neurological systems, and fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balances at or above baseline levels.
  • Maintain or return patient to normothermia during the operative period (or assist anesthesia with patient).
  • Protect from infection using strict sterile technique, ensuring pre-op scrubs and pre-op antibiotic is completed appropriately, room temperature/humidity is within accepted range, room traffic is kept minimal, preparation in the OR is appropriate, and sterile technique of staff in the OR is appropriate, dressings are applied using aseptic technique, and assist with post-op teaching as needed.
  • Assess knowledge of the patient, and support staff regarding psychosocial response to surgery, nutritional, medication, pain, and wound/dressing management, and other expected responses to the operative procedure.
  • Actively involving the patient and support staff in decision affecting the patient’s post op care and rehab.
  • Always protect the patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy.
  • Document surgical nursing care on all appropriate forms (checklist, universal protocol, periop documentation, logbooks, and provider order sheets).
  • Will be required to independently use computer for acquiring patient information, provider order sheets, policies/procedures, forms, preference cards, logs etc.
  • Act as a strong patient advocate and maintain privacy of all appropriate information.
  • Complete departmental cleaning schedules.
  • Re-stocking/assisting in proper ordering of supplies/notifying supervisory of items needing ordered.
  • Assisting with any pre/post-op patient teaching.
  • Properly setting up for surgical procedures using preference cards.
  • Attends and participates in departmental meetings / in-services, Brodstone Healthcare quality improvement program, etc.
  • Participate in committees as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
