Cleveland Clinic’s General OR is a dynamic, team-focused surgical environment that cares for patients undergoing a wide range of complex procedures, including GI, colorectal, oncology, bariatric, endocrine, transplant, and other advanced surgeries. Cases can range from two to twelve hours and include highly specialized operations such as Whipple procedures, colon and intestinal surgeries, organ transplants, and complex oncology interventions. The General/Colorectal OR is also at the forefront of surgical innovation, offering experience with both traditional multi-port and advanced single-port robotic procedures. As an OR nurse, you will be an essential member of the surgical team, working closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and fellow caregivers to deliver safe, efficient, and compassionate patient care throughout every stage of surgery. Responsibilities include preparing and supporting patients before surgery, maintaining a safe and organized sterile environment, assisting during procedures, advocating for patients while they are under anesthesia, and providing education and communication to patients and families. Cleveland Clinic supports both experienced nurses and new graduates through a comprehensive perioperative orientation program, along with ongoing education and specialty training to promote professional growth and long-term career success.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • New grad or less than one year RN work experience or if experience RN moving from non-inpatient to acute direct care clinical inpatient setting with less than one-year current acute direct patient care RN experience.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a residency core curriculum based on surgery core learning needs.
  • Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
  • Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).
  • Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.
  • Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
  • Document in patients’ medical records.
