This position practices according to entity mandatory requirements, department expectations, and best practice standards of care, with a customer service approach to all activities. The role participates in ongoing Performance Improvement programs and cares for patients utilizing the nursing process with an interdisciplinary approach. The RN provides effective patient and family teaching, initiates discharge planning, assesses patients for actual and potential problems, and updates assessments continually. Responsibilities include administering medications safely, managing patients with pain, utilizing restraints per policy, identifying and reporting signs of neglect/abuse, and caring for terminally ill patients and their families. The role addresses age-specific needs and performs cardiovascular assessments, as well as assessing the physical, mental, and psychosocial status of patients. The RN will assist physicians with minor/local surgical procedures, pain management interventions, and gastroenterology procedures such as colonoscopy with polypectomy, biopsy, esophageal dilations, and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy. Additionally, the RN performs pre and post-procedure phone calls, provides care for post-procedure patients, and maintains appropriate licenses and certifications. Proficiency in computerized nursing informatics is required.
