About The Position

The Hospital Supervisor is an integral part of the care leadership team, responsible for coordinating and delivering clinical services activities on their assigned shift. In the absence of department or facility leadership, this role manages staff utilization, staffing levels, immediate problem-solving, and decision-making, while ensuring a safe environment by adhering to safety regulations, policies, and procedures. The supervisor provides clinical support and leadership for high-risk patients or unusual situations, and is accountable for patient census, observation status, and appropriate bed utilization. They communicate with patients, families, and the public to foster positive relations, resolve issues, and address concerns, consulting with the Administrator on Call when necessary. This position involves supervising and leading hospital staff in collaboration with unit/department leaders, facilitating positive change, ensuring quality care, and optimizing resource use in a cost-effective and efficient manner. The role requires demonstrating critical thinking, problem resolution, and mentoring/educating staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree nursing (BSN)
  • 2 years of relevant clinical nursing experience
  • MI RN license
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • AHA Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 180 days
  • Nursing Administration or Professional/Specialty Certification within 12 months of assuming the role, or within 12 months of achieving eligibility to sit for the exam if not eligible upon hire into the role

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree nursing (MSN)
  • 2 years of relevant experience recent relevant leadership (i.e., Charge Nurse, Shared Leadership position, Magnet Champion, QSO) (based on Corewell Health entity)

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver clinical services activities on their assigned shift.
  • Manage appropriate use of staff and staffing levels in the absence of department or facility leadership.
  • Perform immediate problem solving and management decision making in the absence of department or facility leadership.
  • Maintain a safe environment by ensuring adherence to safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide clinical support / leadership for high-risk patients or unusual situations.
  • Be accountable for patient census, observation status and appropriate bed utilization.
  • Communicate with patients, families, and the public to promote positive relations, diffuse problems, and address patient/family concerns/issues.
  • Consult with Administrator on Call as appropriate.
  • Provide supervision and leadership to hospital staff in collaboration with unit/department level leaders.
  • Facilitate positive change, quality care and appropriate use of resources in a cost-effective and efficient manner.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and problem resolution.
  • Mentor/educate staff.
