This role supervises nursing home staff and nursing activities, including resident care and record-keeping. The position assists in managing the nursing staff assigned to a particular shift within the nursing home and takes action regarding the provision of resources within the context of shifts or designated time frames. The RN Supervisor assigns residents to available nursing staff, considering the resident's condition and the employee's skill level. The role monitors resident care areas and other nursing home facilities for cleanliness and readiness. The supervisor may fill in for clinical support staff when staffing gaps exist and, depending on staffing needs, may serve as a point of contact for technical training and troubleshooting for staff. The position is responsible for utilizing and ensuring staff follow the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to clients. Collaboration with other inter-professional colleagues, including providers, is essential for planning, implementing, and evaluating care. This includes personal care management, medication administration, care planning, scheduling physician visits, setting up appointments, and working with clients, families, home health services, county and state offices to assure client needs are met. The role also assists and supports human resources administrative processing and procedures with staff management and may assist with providing feedback in the collection and preparation of required budget information. Additionally, the RN Supervisor assists in conducting new staff training and orientation regarding operating rules and working standards.
