About The Position

The Nursing Supervisor will have 24/7 accountability for an assigned nursing area/unit. The Supervisor plans, organizes, and directs nursing practice for areas of responsibility and does this in accordance with the Mercyhealth's Mission, Vision, Values and Philosophy. The Supervisor will maintain clinical expertise in their area of responsibility and is expected to provide direct patient care in proportion to the needs of their areas. The Supervisor ensures the total patient experience is exceptional both in the Quality of Care and in the patient perception of services as defined and measured by system dashboard goals. Interviews, selects, orientate, trains, coaches and mentors and evaluates the performance of partners, providing corrective action when necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree required
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible nursing experience preferably in Home health
  • Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS) knowledge
  • Experience with electronic health record software and timekeeping payroll system
  • Proficient PC Skills, computer data entry skills and Windows software (MS Office) experience
  • Licensed as a RN in the State required
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days of hire
  • For those driving Mercyhealth vehicles: Maintain a valid driver's license. Have and maintain an acceptable driving record per Mercyhealth's HR.100 Fleet and Driver Safety policy.
  • For those driving their personal vehicles: Maintain a valid driver's license and reliable transportation with proof of vehicle insurance when requested. Have and maintain an acceptable driving record per Mercyhealth's HR.100 Fleet and Driver Safety policy.

  • Additional License as a RN in the secondary State of practice Illinois/Wisconsin within 1 year of hire (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for achievement of patient satisfaction (HHCAHPS) action plans.
  • Supports process improvement in operations, quality, and organizational change.
  • Communicates effectively and persuasively with individuals and groups.
  • Participates in hospital and department committees.
  • Demonstrates ability in developing and mentoring staff and colleagues.

  • Serves as a role model and coach for Critical Moments of Service Standards and service recovery.
  • Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities, may include shared governance.
  • Utilizes critical thinking regarding patient safety and patient experience and appropriately escalates to the appropriate chain of command.
  • Supports the professional nurse continuum and nursing clinical ladder for RNs (CARE).
  • Demonstrates broad knowledge of rules and regulations governing home health.
  • Actively participates in the quality improvement process to evaluate program progress and assists staff in identifying areas of needed improvement.
  • Assists in the preparation for accreditation and certification visits related to home health.
  • Coordinates referrals with the Intake Department, reviewing and collaborating on incoming referrals for appropriateness of services and coordinating timely initiation of services.
  • Coordinates insurance authorizations with insurance case managers and obtains orders for services accordingly and informs staff members and billing department.
  • Understands all pay sources and completes all necessary documentation and communications required by the pay source.
  • Delivers quality skilled nursing care as ordered by physician and in accordance with the established plan of treatment.
  • Provides assistance to Intake Coordinator.
