About The Position

This position provides patient care, reviews and administers patient medications, including intravenous titrations, invasive and arterial lines, cardiac monitoring, ventilator management, treatments and procedures in a safe, effective and age-appropriate manner that meets scope of practice and standards of nursing practice. The role involves recognizing changes in patient's clinical conditions, taking appropriate action and documenting interventions. The nurse will appropriately respond to RRT/Code Blues/Code Whites as assigned and effectively collaborate with the health care team to intervene and advocate as necessary. The position also requires intervening appropriately in instances of abuse, assault or neglect, or when adequate financial or social resources are not available, and making appropriate referrals to resolve patient issues effectively. The role involves developing long and short-term goals consistent with treatment plans, standards of practice, and the plan of care, incorporating patient preference and discussing the plan of care with the patient. It includes appropriately utilizing pain management resources and other interventions to provide pain relief, providing ongoing assessments and documenting the patient's physical and psychosocial condition, as well as response to care. The nurse will review patient test results, identify critical results, and communicate them in a timely manner consistent with the patient's condition, correlating information into the plan of care. The role ensures nursing practice is evidence-based, within scope of licensure, and compliant with hospital-wide standards of nursing care, including core measures, and ensures Infection Control procedures and HIPAA compliance. Collaboration with staff, physicians, and members of the healthcare team is essential, ensuring the coordination of care between other disciplines and support staff. The role involves supervising, monitoring, and delegating patient care activities to appropriate members of the health care team, providing effective leadership, and ensuring that care is safe and of high quality. The nurse will act as a source of information and articulately respond to questions, providing resources, guidance, and education about treatment plans, plans of care, and medications. Developing and implementing accurate teaching and ongoing discharge plans is also a key responsibility. Communication involves empathizing with patients and support systems, expressing compassion and understanding, and demonstrating care appropriate for the age, and cultural, religious, gender identity, or ethnic background. Engaging in caring behaviors, taking conscious ownership for work, and taking deliberate/thoughtful actions regarding interactions with patients, families, physicians, and co-workers is expected.

Requirements

  • Active, current, and unencumbered Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing
  • AHA Basic Life Support
  • AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to work variable shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to maintain flexibility and composure in a constantly changing environment
  • One (1) year previous critical care nursing experience or completion of a 6-week critical care training course
  • Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only)
