About The Position

At St. Tammany Health System, the RN Staff - Surgery position is responsible and accountable for a group of patients during a designated time frame. The nurse provides care through therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment and instrumentation, and other health care team members. The Perioperative RN plans and directs care for every patient undergoing operative and invasive procedures and directs and supervises surgical team members.

The schedule is 32 hours per week, four days a week Monday through Friday, from 6:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Call is required on nights, holidays, and weekends, and the Perioperative RN must be available in-house within 30 minutes when on call. The role requires good physical health, including standing, sitting, or walking for extended periods and lifting at least 50 pounds. Work takes place in a moderate noise level.

Requirements

• Graduate from an NLN-accredited school of nursing.
• Current Louisiana RN license.
• BLS certification, or obtain it during orientation.
• ALS certification within six months of hire; current BLS and ALS certifications must be through ILCOR-provided courses that include a manikin checkoff.
• At least one year of Surgery RN experience.
• Able to work flexible shifts and take call according to unit-specific standards.
• Good physical health; able to stand, sit, or walk for long periods and lift at least 50 pounds.
• Able to work with a moderate level of noise.

Nice To Haves

• At least two years of Surgery RN experience preferred.
• Acute care facility surgery experience preferred.
• CNOR certification preferred.
