The RN Staff Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care according to LCMC Health standards and policies. This role involves delegating tasks to professional and non-professional personnel involved in patient care delivery. This job description outlines the general nature and level of work, but LCMC Health reserves the right to amend responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

  • Valid license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing in Louisiana.
  • American Heart Association BLS-HCP.
  • For MICU Department: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
  • For Med/Surge, Nursing Unit Oncology, Hematology Oncology, Clinic Oncology, Oncology Infusion: Certification in Chemotherapy Immunotherapy conferred or issued by the Oncology Nursing Society/ ONCC (within 2 years of hire)
  • For Perioperative Nursing: Certified Medical Surgical Registered Nurse / Medical - Surgical Nursing Certification Board
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association (NOEH receive within 90 days)
  • Non-Violent Crisis Prevention (CPI, NCI-CPI) - Crisis Prevention Institute (NOEH employees must receive within 90 days)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) - National Institute of Health (NOEH employees must receive within 90 days)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (NOEH employees must receive within 90 days)

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of RN clinical experience in an Emergency Department is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates and maintains a safe environment for patients and others.
  • Utilizes the nursing process to develop and deliver a plan of care for assigned patients.
  • Performs priority technical procedures required by the area, department, and/or assignment safely, effectively, efficiently, and legally.
  • Establishes and/or revises priorities for patient care activities based on acuity, resource availability, customer/patient preference/request, and other departmental needs.
  • Coordinates and delegates activities related to patient care management and supervises other unit personnel providing care to assigned patients.
  • Communicates using appropriate channels, proper hand-off, and escalation of information, data, and significant events or problems to ensure continuity of care.
  • Keeps patients informed and provides periodic updates as appropriate.
  • Positively contributes to the organizational goal of patient throughput.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to identify actions to improve patient care.
  • Seeks supervision, consultation, and assistance when unable to perform effectively or safely independently.
  • Uses interpersonal-communication strategies to achieve desirable outcomes and satisfaction.
  • Uses internal and/or external resources to resolve and/or prevent problems that cannot be managed independently.
  • Actively promotes and supports LCMC Health’s performance improvement initiatives by consistently implementing infection control practices, maintaining the environment of care consistent with Joint Commission requirements, and participating in quality improvement activities and review/audit processes.
  • Continuously displays a positive attitude that contributes to patient satisfaction and utilizes the service recovery process to address patients’ concerns or complaints.
  • Recognizes customer needs and begins to solve problems as soon as they are apparent.
  • Contributes to the team by providing assistance to others without being asked.
