The Registered Nurse is responsible for the coordination of clinical activities for the NICU patient. Activities include, but are not limited to, use of the nursing process in the utilization of skills in organization, planning, implementing, evaluating, and providing care as it relates to the specific needs of the patient. Registered Nurses also supervise the activities of Licensed Practical Nurses, Unit Assistants and Certified Nursing Assistants. Registered Nurses work within the framework of the State Nurse Practice Act and follow hospital policies and procedures. The Registered Nurse also complies with hospital and nursing standards in the performance of job duties and responsibilities. The Registered Nurse will support the goals and objectives of the department and of the hospital. Nursing staff within Children’s Services areas are required to float to PICU and Pediatrics as needed.

Requirements

  • Successfully completed Board Certified Nursing Program.
  • Current LA RN licensure.
  • Current BLS required upon hire.
  • NRP and PALS required within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of level IV within the past 12 months or 2 years Level III NICU experience within the past 3 years preferred.
  • Certifications may be through any International Liaison Committee on resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check-off.

Responsibilities

  • Coordination of clinical activities for the NICU patient.
  • Utilization of the nursing process in organization, planning, implementing, evaluating, and providing care as it relates to the specific needs of the patient.
  • Supervising the activities of Licensed Practical Nurses, Unit Assistants and Certified Nursing Assistants.

  • Supporting the goals and objectives of the department and of the hospital.
  • Floating to PICU and Pediatrics as needed.
