The Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital NICU Pathway Program is designed for passionate registered nurses who are eager to develop the specialized knowledge and clinical skills needed to care for the most critically ill and premature newborns. Requirements

  • Accredited Program: Nursing (Required)
  • BLS American Heart E-Card (BLS AHA ECARD) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART), BLS American Heart RQI E-Card (BLS AHA-RQI ECARD) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART), BLS Cert American Heart_non ecard (BLS AHA) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART), BLS Certification Grace (BLS GRACE) - Employee Grace Period for Essential Credential (GRACE), BLS Cert Red Cross (BLS RC) - Red Cross (RED CROSS)
  • Registered Nurse Compact License (RN LICENSE COMPACT) - Compact RN Multistate
  • Registered Nurse License (RN LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL)
  • One (1) year of nursing experience required.
  • ONCC Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Certificate Required for those RNs administering chemotherapy.
  • APHON Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider card required within 12 months of hire for those RNs administering chemotherapy for oncologic indication within the pediatric setting.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required for ICU, ED, PACU, Endo, Tele, OB, MHN Pre-Op and Specialty Procedural areas.
  • PALS required for Pediatric areas with the exception of NICU.- if RN is coming from a non-pediatric background, they have 30 days from date of hire to obtain PALS.
  • NRP certification required for NICU – if RN is coming from a non NICU background, they have 30 days from date of hire to obtain NRP.
  • Certification in Fetal Monitoring through National Credential Center or through AWOHNN (Intermediate or Advanced) for L&D RNs must be completed prior to completion of job orientation.
  • RN Fellowship Program requires one (1) year of RN independent practice not inclusive of nurse orientation.
  • RN Fellowship specialties require ACLS and BLS Certifications.
  • Newly licensed RNs have six (6) months to obtain ACLS and, or PALS.

Nice To Haves

  • If RN is coming from a non-pediatric background, they have 30 days from date of hire to obtain PALS.
  • If RN is coming from a non NICU background, they have 30 days from date of hire to obtain NRP.
  • If RN is coming from a non-pediatric background, they have 30 days from date of hire to obtain PALS.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively delegates patient care to ancillary personnel.
  • May precept student nurses and new hires.
  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including disposition, referral, and spiritual and, or psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of the patient and, or family and provides patient and family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates patient care based on patient assessment to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources.
  • Monitors, documents, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
