As an RN Specialist in the Wound Care Department, you will provide high-quality, cost-effective care to patients with wounds, ostomies, incontinence, skin conditions, and pressure injuries by using the nursing process and evidence-based practices. This role includes delivering direct and indirect patient care, identifying patients for hyperbaric treatments servings as a backup tech, educating patients and staff on prevention and treatment, serving as a clinical resource for wound, ostomy, continence, and skin care management, collaborating with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, supporting the professional development of nursing staff, and helping ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire
  • Wound ostomy continence certifications through the Wound Ostomy Continence Certification Board (WOCNCB)
  • One-year recent RN experience
  • Maintain competencies specific to patient population served

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Wound or ostomy care experience
  • 2 years of recent RN experience

Responsibilities

  • Complete nursing assignment on patients with wound care needs utilizing the nursing process including assessment, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation, based on mutual goals set with patient/caregiver.
  • Perform wound/ostomy/continence/skin care based on sound nursing theory, scientific principles, evidence-based practice, professional judgment, and individual patient needs.
  • Document patient visit in Wound Center's EMR per policy.
  • Recognize significant changes in patients condition, take appropriate nursing action when changes occur.
  • Communicate and collaborate with nursing, respiratory, medical and support staff to assure coordination of patients care.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to non-wound care nursing staff.
  • Collaborate with the management to formulate and revise standards of care for patients being treated for wound care.
  • Provide input as unit specific policies and procedures are reviewed, revised, or formulated.
  • Assist in establishing, monitoring, and identifying effective department based QI program.
  • Participate in nursing research activities as appropriate.
  • Communicate patient care issues, unit issues, and other significant situations to the director, or other appropriate administrator in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a patient advocate and facilitate resolution of problems on ethical dilemmas.
  • Serve as a liaison to community and outside agencies as necessary.
  • Participate in yearly peer review.
  • Assist in orientation of registered and licensed practical nurses.
  • Complete mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements.
  • Maintain applicable certification/licensure (CPR certification).
