About The Position

The Short Stay Unit/Observation Unit is a 50-bed unit (private rooms) specializing in caring for the adult population with a variety of diagnoses. A multi-disciplinary team approach is used for care, treatment, and disposition within 23 hours. Patients can come to this unit from all areas: Emergency Center, Operating Room, procedural areas, directly from home, or from their primary care physician’s office. The unit has 20 telemetry beds for patients who require cardiac monitoring. The specialty is “All Non-Critical Specialties,” due to the wide range of diagnoses. The team works diligently in transitioning patients to their next care area (home, placement, admission, or procedural area). Dearborn Hospital is recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the “Top 10 Hospitals” in Michigan. This major teaching and research hospital has been advancing care since 1953. It is a Level II trauma center and has been recognized for clinical excellence and innovation in the fields of orthopedics, neurosciences, women’s health, heart & vascular, and cancer care.

Requirements

  • Associates in Nursing Required
  • Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years
  • Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required upon hire

Responsibilities

  • The RN, under the ANA scope of practice, utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge.
  • The RN provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures.
  • The RN recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes.
  • The RN partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning the plan of care.
  • The RN develops teaching strategies for patient/family.
  • The RN documents education and learning appropriately in the health record.
