About The Position

This role involves coordinating operations within the Department of Radiation Oncology, serving as a clinical expert, patient advocate, and educator. The position requires strong problem-solving skills, effective communication with healthcare team members, and adherence to safety policies and procedures. The RN will utilize the nursing process to provide comprehensive patient care, collaborate with healthcare providers, perform emergency treatments, maintain accurate documentation, and promote patient and staff safety.

Requirements

Registered Nurse (RN) scope of practice.
Ability to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate patient care.
Proficiency in performing comprehensive nursing assessments.
Ability to administer and perform nursing assessments for various patient types (newborn to geriatrics).
Skill in developing comprehensive plans of care.
Ability to review, discuss, and implement healthcare provider orders.
Ability to recognize abnormal symptoms/changes in patient condition and take appropriate action.
Ability to evaluate patient progress.
Demonstrated accountability in patient care delivery.
Ability to provide intravenous interventions.
Effective communication and collaboration skills with healthcare providers and team members.
Ability to work effectively with ancillary areas.
Ability to direct patient support team members.
Initiative and flexibility in patient care.
Ability to inform and involve management regarding patient care issues.
Assistance in making patient assignments, coordinating admissions, and meeting staffing needs.

Accurate and ongoing documentation of patient status, interventions, responses, teaching, and outcomes.

Ability to provide specific information to on-call nurse.
Ability to report condition changes and plan of care to medical provider.
Ability to implement physician orders.
Safe administration of medications, treatments, and procedures.
Adherence to standard precautions and use of two patient identifiers.
Completion of medication reconciliation/regimen review.
Communication of medication updates/changes to medical provider.
Utilization of proper body mechanics and transfer/lifting techniques.
Implementation of infectious disease controls, including isolation procedures, hand washing, and glove use.
Adherence to procedures for wasting narcotics and disposal of sharps and hazardous materials.
Documentation of narcotic waste.

Responsibilities

Coordinate operations within the Department of Radiation Oncology.
Serve as a clinical expert in the assessment of the patient population.
Act as a patient advocate and demonstrate high skill in patient education.
Communicate with other health care team members and departments to meet patient care requirements.
Monitor adherence to policy and procedure to ensure safety of patients and staff.
Assist in maintaining equipment and outdated supplies for patient care.
Report malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel.
Re-order supplies as needed.
Keep management informed of patient care and staff issues.
Problem-solve and make decisions within areas of accountability using a well-defined approach.
Prioritize tasks such as patient scheduling, referrals, staffing, and quality or other operational issues in a changing environment.
Use good judgment when making independent decisions.
Negotiate effectively while maintaining positive relationships.
Serve as a resource for staff in solving clinical, regulatory, and operations issues.

Develop comprehensive plans of care based on assessments.
Review, discuss, and implement healthcare provider orders appropriately, and address questions.
Recognize abnormal symptoms/changes in patient condition, establish priorities, and take appropriate action.
Evaluate patient progress toward desired outcomes prior to discharge or release.
Demonstrate personal accountability in delivering competent, professional, and compassionate patient care.
Provide intravenous interventions.
Collaborate with healthcare providers to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care.
Promote team concept through effective communication regarding patient condition, care plan, and satisfaction.
Work effectively with ancillary areas as part of the team approach to patient care.
Direct patient support team members effectively and appropriately.

Inform and involve Manager regarding patient care issues in a timely and appropriate manner.

Collaborate with the Care Plan team.
Perform emergency treatment as required in accordance with RN scope of practice.
Initiate or assist in patient care effectively and responsively.
Triage emergency situations appropriately and involve other resources as needed.
Administer and perform emergent care in accordance with applicable patient population types (newborn to geriatrics).
Follow emergency policies, procedures, and protocols effectively.
Document accurate and ongoing assessments of patient status, interventions, responses, teaching, and discharge outcomes.
Perform quality assurance reviews as assigned and document.
Complete patient call-back education calls and document as assigned.
Communicate and collaborate effectively with other health team members regarding patient condition, nursing plan of care, patient satisfaction needs, and recommendations.
Provide appropriate and specific information to on-call nurse regarding patient condition, changes in plan of care, or updated physician orders.
Appropriately report condition changes and plan of care to medical provider and implement physician orders.
Administer medications, treatments, and procedures safely and timely according to orders and policy.
Perform standard precautions, use two patient identifiers, and complete medication reconciliation/regimen review.
Communicate any medication updates/changes to the medical provider.
