About The Position

Performs the primary function of a professional nurse in assessing, planning, directing, and evaluating nursing care provided to patients. Responsible for interacting with hospital staff and/or ancillary departments regarding patient care, concerns, and conflicts by identifying and assisting in the resolutions. This position will, during his/her shift operate without Unit Clerk, Respiratory Therapy, Stroke Team, OB Support, Code Blue support, Phlebotomy and House Supervisor. FED Registered Nurses are responsible for, but not limited to Ventilator Management, Lab Draws including ABGs, placing phone calls and receiving/answering phone calls, paging on call resources, Responding/Activating Code Blue and Housekeeping as needed. Responsible and accountable for maintaining performance skills. This position summary contains the most relevant duties and responsibilities and does not exclude other assignments not mentioned. Position does work weekends, holidays, evenings, nights, overtime, and/or on an on-call/call-back status.

Requirements

  • RN Licensure in State of Texas
  • Willingness to be cross trained to other unit areas.
  • Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.
  • Registered Nurse currently licensed in the State of Texas, or part of a compact state license, or has a valid temporary RN license for the State of Texas while waiting to receive the permanent license.
  • Possess an Associate Degree, Baccalaureate Degree or Diploma from a School of Nursing or University.
  • New graduate RN’s in possession of a permit to practice in the State of Texas may provide documentation from their RN program validating their completion of nursing program requirements.
  • Must have, obtain according job description and thereafter maintain current certifications.
  • Certification must be in accordance with the curriculum of the AHA, for Healthcare Provider’s Program.
  • BCLS/CPR must be current upon hire and thereafter.
  • ACLS required for FED RN. RN with one year or less of experience – may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire. Or, if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times.
  • PALS required for FED RN. RN with one year or less of experience – may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire. Or, if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times.
  • NRP required for FED RN. RN with one year or less of experience – may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire. Or, if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times.
  • TNCC required for FED RN. RN with one year or less of experience – may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire. If hired with a current certification, must keep certification current.
  • CPI required for FED RN. RN with one year or less of experience – may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire. Or, if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Operates without Unit Clerk, Respiratory Therapy, Stroke Team, OB Support, Code Blue support, Phlebotomy and House Supervisor during shift.
  • Responsible for Ventilator Management, Lab Draws including ABGs, placing phone calls and receiving/answering phone calls, paging on call resources, Responding/Activating Code Blue and Housekeeping as needed.
  • Maintains performance skills.
