About The Position

Seattle Children's is seeking Registered Nurses (RNs) for the Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Unit (PBMU), a 41-bed unit providing 24/7 care for children and adolescents (ages 4-17) with emotional, behavioral, and neuropsychiatric disorders. The unit treats conditions such as depression, developmental delays, attention deficits, anxiety, pervasive developmental disorders, conduct disorders, oppositional-defiant disorders, anorexia/bulimia, and psychosis. They also care for children with co-occurring issues like hearing impairments, chronic medical illnesses, or physical developmental disabilities. The PBMU utilizes an interdisciplinary model of care, involving a team of professionals including RNs, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, psychologists, therapists, social workers, special education teachers, and various other therapists. Care includes behavior management, patient and family education, group activities, supportive counseling, psychotropic medication management, and limited medical nursing services. The RN will function within the State's Scope of Practice and ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice, providing safe, family-centered care. This involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care collaboratively with the patient, family, and healthcare team. The RN may also supervise and delegate tasks to other healthcare support staff. The role also involves contributing to Seattle Children's strategic goals through initiatives like Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), Value Based Behaviors, Error Prevention, Patient Safety, and Workforce Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA).

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Current Washington State RN License, or other current state license that the RN is required to work in.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers is required for all positions at time of hire unless the incumbent possesses a current appropriate Life Support Education required for their practice area.
BLS must be maintained in current status until the incumbent obtains the appropriate Life Support Education required for their practice area.
Nurses working in the Psychiatric Unit are required to obtain Safety Care Certification (internal training) within 3 months of hire and maintain current certification (annual) thereafter.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with adult populations.
Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Providers.
Nurses working in the Psychiatric Unit are required to successfully obtain PEARS within 6 months of employment, and subsequently maintain at all times.

Responsibilities

Provide safe, family-centered patient care.
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using the Nursing Care Process in a collaborative method with the patient, patient's family, significant others, and members of the health care team.
May provide supervision and delegation of tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, and others as defined by the State Administrative Code.
Assist in meeting Seattle Children's strategic goals by incorporating initiatives to support strategic plans into daily work, such as Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), Value Based Behaviors, Error Prevention, Patient Safety, and Workforce Inclusion Diversity Equity and Access (IDEA).
