About The Position

The RN Progressive Care position is on 6 South, a 32-bed surgical unit focused on post-operative care for abdominal surgery patients. This role involves close collaboration with surgeons and residents, fostering teamwork, a friendly atmosphere, and strong relationships with case management, PT/OT, dieticians, and social work. The unit promotes open communication, professional autonomy, a multicultural environment, certified preceptors, and a well-structured setting, offering a large variety of patients for excellent nursing experience and assessment skill development. The unit includes 8 telemetry beds for post-surgery cardiac monitoring. Dearborn Hospital is a major teaching and research hospital, recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of Michigan's "Top 10 Hospitals." It is a Level II trauma center with recognized clinical excellence in orthopedics, neurosciences, women’s health, heart & vascular, and cancer care.

Requirements

  • Associates in Nursing Required
  • Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years
  • Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required upon hire

  • Specialty Certification highly recommended within 2 years

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge.
  • Provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures.
  • Recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes.
  • Partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning plan of care.
  • Develops teaching strategies for patient/family; documents education and learning appropriately in health record.
