About The Position

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is an 11-bed unit at Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children, dedicated to caring for critically ill children aged 0-18. The PICU team includes RNs, NPs, and Pediatric Intensivists who collaborate with a multidisciplinary care team. The unit provides a progressive educational program, including monthly inservices from physicians, to train staff in pediatric critical care. We are seeking a team player with a positive attitude and a drive for excellence to join our PICU family. The PICU RN provides care for children and adolescents with life-threatening or high-acuity conditions requiring constant monitoring. This involves identifying patient needs and care priorities through detailed assessment of children with various dysfunctions (respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, orthopedic, endocrine, and neurologic). The RN plans and delivers safe, age-appropriate care in critical situations, including titrating drips, performing technical procedures, and utilizing various equipment. The RN evaluates patient responses to care and progress toward outcomes, and is accountable for patient care outcomes during their shift, striving for clinical and service excellence.

Requirements

  • Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing with current Alabama licensure.
  • 1 year pediatric or ICU experience.
  • BLS required before the conclusion of the orientation period.
  • PALS required within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies patient needs and priorities for care through detailed assessment of children who have respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, orthopedic, endocrine and neurologic dysfunction.
  • Plans and delivers safe, age appropriate care under critical situations based on the patient’s needs to include titration of drips, multiple technical procedures and use of a variety of equipment for acute care.
  • Evaluates the patient’s response to care and the attainment of or progress toward expected outcomes.
  • Is accountable for outcomes of patient care delivered during the assigned shift, and strives to provide clinical and service excellence.
