About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) PRN ICU plays a critical role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care within the Intensive Care Unit. This position involves providing comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients on an as-needed basis, ensuring their safety, comfort, and recovery. The RN will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to assess patient conditions, implement care plans, and respond promptly to emergencies. This role demands adaptability, clinical expertise, and strong communication skills to manage complex patient needs effectively. Ultimately, the RN PRN ICU contributes to improved patient outcomes by maintaining rigorous standards of care in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Previous experience in a high-acuity ICU such as medical, surgical, or trauma ICU.
  • Ability to work on a PRN (as-needed) basis with flexible scheduling.

Nice To Haves

  • Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification or equivalent experience in an ICU setting.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems, preferably Epic or Cerner.
  • Strong background in ventilator management and hemodynamic monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and monitor the condition of critically ill patients, including vital signs, symptoms, and responses to treatment.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed by physicians and according to established protocols.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and update individualized care plans.
  • Respond promptly to changes in patient status, including emergencies, and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Document all nursing care, patient observations, and communications accurately and timely in the electronic health record system.
  • Educate patients and their families about diagnoses, treatments, and post-ICU care to support recovery and health maintenance.
  • Maintain strict adherence to infection control, safety standards, and hospital policies to ensure a safe care environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
