About The Position

Orange Avenue Center is hiring Pre-Op/PACU RNs. This position offers no weekends, call, holidays, or nights, making it a great opportunity to join a surgery center specializing in Gastroenterology. The Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge. The RN is accountable for achieving patient outcomes through the implementation of critical pathways and adhering to the facility's philosophy, standards of practice, and governing regulations.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse for Three (3) plus years required.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) License in Florida
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Strong communication skills with patients, families, teammates, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence in skills identified for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Pre & Post Operative of two (2) plus years is desirable.
  • Two (2) plus years of experience Multi-Specialty Ambulatory Surgery Center or Outpatient facility, preferred.
  • Building strong relationships with Physicians.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Correlate clinical data with patient's medical and nursing care.
  • Set priorities to facilitate the efficient flow of patients to the OR and PACU.
  • Provide clear and concise direction to others to promote efficiency in clinical areas.
  • Assess, plan, evaluate, and ensure the implementation of patient care from admission to discharge to achieve identified outcomes.
  • Direct and provide patient care in emergency situations per physician and administrative policies.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of new nursing staff.
  • Promote physical comfort, emotional support, and safety for patients and their families.
  • Verify surgical/procedure site with the patient, obtain consents, reconcile medications, and review discharge instructions.
  • Accurately complete and audit nursing documentation for each patient.
  • Initiate IV access and administer pre-operative medications per physician orders.
  • Review and update physician's pre-operative and post-operative orders and instructions.
  • Practice and monitor aseptic techniques.
  • Respect the patient’s right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Position the patient with attention to body alignment, airway maintenance, and circulation.
  • Maintain, stock, and replenish supplies for both pre-operative and PACU departments. Notify appropriate staff to order supplies as needed.
  • Assist physicians and anesthesia personnel as needed.
  • Perform pre-operative and post-operative phone calls to patients, obtain pre-anesthesia assessments, review pre-op instructions, and follow up after surgery.
  • Operate, clean, and care for equipment according to procedure.
  • Check and document that defibrillators and all emergency equipment are in working order each morning.
  • Ensure that all necessary medications are available each morning and communicate with Leadership or Materials Manager if any medications need to be ordered.
  • Perform a correct narcotic count with another RN or licensed personnel at the beginning and end of the day.
  • Maintain a neat and organized environment that promotes safety.
  • Maintain attendance according to facility guidelines and policies.
  • Provide notification for unscheduled absences or tardiness per departmental procedures and request time off according to the established procedure.
  • Complete all teammate/patient event and variance documentation in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Attend unit-based staff meetings and review minutes for any meetings missed.
  • Maintain certification requirements and submit required certifications to facility management.
  • Strive to be professional, courteous, helpful, and cooperative, interacting with all patients, families, visitors, and employees in a mature, positive manner.
  • Follow Infection Prevention and Control guidelines. Notify Clinical Manager of any suspicion of a possible cross contamination.
  • Comply with OSHA and Joint Commission standards, HIPAA regulations, and all facility policies and procedures.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the manager.
