Northside Hospital is an award-winning, state-of-the-art, and continually growing organization. The Pre-Surgery Assessment (PSA) department operates in a call center environment and is a non-patient-facing department. Registered Nurses (RNs) in this role conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessment calls, which typically last one hour or longer. Responsibilities include gathering and reviewing patient medical histories, completing nursing assessments, and developing individualized care plans. These plans may include laboratory testing and diagnostics, or the need for a Pre-Surgical Anesthesia Evaluation (PSAE). All required in-person testing and evaluations are completed through the separate Pre-Surgery Clinic department. The PSA department operates Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. RNs typically work four 10-hour shifts per week, with no evening, night, weekend, or on-call requirements. Key qualifications include strong clinical assessment skills, proficiency with computer systems, and the ability to effectively conduct patient assessments over the phone. Additionally, a strong understanding of medications and their clinical implications is needed, as this knowledge is critical to effectively educating patients and delivering clear pre-operative instructions.
