About The Position

To provide planned and appropriately skilled nursing care for patients during the pre-op and post-op phase of the surgery process. This is a Full-Time position. Schedule is 4 days/week (Tues-Fri) 6:30am-4:30pm.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current State license.
  • Certified in CPR.
  • Foundational computer skills with the ability to navigate clinical software and electronic records.
  • Professional communication when interacting with patients, physicians, and fellow staff members.
  • Basic EKG interpretation and strong patient‑assessment abilities.
  • IV insertion proficiency along with solid understanding of commonly used medications.
  • Knowledge of care planning and awareness of legal responsibilities within the nursing scope.

Nice To Haves

  • Postoperative or critical care experience preferred.
  • Ophthalmic surgery experience desirable.
  • ACLS certification desirable and mandatory for all full-time positions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain quality of care by following therapeutic standards, correct clinical techniques, and all facility policies.
  • Adheres strictly to regulations set by the state board of nursing, the state nurse practice act, and all other governing agencies.
  • Train in perioperative care, becoming competent in both pre- and post-surgical patient management.
  • Open and close clinical areas each day according to established protocols.
  • Manage patient admissions and discharges using a primary-care-based approach.
  • Introduce oneself appropriately, using professional tone and demeanor.
  • Coordinate patient care to ensure a safe, smooth, and comfortable experience.
  • Review and document medical information, ensuring continuity among nurses and physicians by accurately recording all relevant observations, changes, actions, and patient needs.
  • Document all care provided in the patient’s medical record.
  • Build rapport with patients and their families or support persons.
  • Promote patient independence by setting care goals, educating patients and families about procedures, medications, and discharge instructions, and addressing questions.
  • Resolve patient concerns through collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain a safe environment by following all safety procedures and requesting assistance when needed.
  • Follow infection-control standards, medication-handling rules, and controlled-substance regulations to protect patients and staff.
  • Ensure equipment readiness by performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting issues, arranging repairs, tracking inventory, and evaluating new equipment or techniques.
  • Manage supply inventory by monitoring stock levels, anticipating needs, placing orders, verifying deliveries, and using supplies responsibly.
  • Maintain professional development through workshops, professional reading, networking, and participation in professional organizations.
  • Support team collaboration by sharing information, responding to requests, and contributing to problem-solving efforts.
  • Interact professionally with physicians, patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate initiative and maintain consistent productivity.
  • Communicate politely by phone and relay information to appropriate personnel.
  • Record narcotic and other logs accurately and on schedule.
  • Audit charts at shift end, excluding one’s own primary-care patients.
  • Comply with OSHA, HIPAA, and CLIA regulations at all times.
  • Follow facility policies and the employee handbook.
  • Uphold the facility mission and values as well as Dr. Black’s guiding principles.
  • Complete post-operative follow-up calls promptly.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
