The Perioperative Nursing Training Program (Periop 101) is a preceptorship designed to introduce the professional registered nurse to the practice of perioperative nursing. Incorporating didactic instruction and clinical experience, the learner is introduced to the activities and clinical skills necessary to care for the surgical patient throughout their surgical experience. AORN's Perioperative 101 Course is used as a guide to prepare the learner as they advance through the program. Specialty-specific clinical experiences will be coordinated and supervised by preceptors chosen by the Perioperative Educators. Training will consist of computer modules, lectures, labs, presentations, fundamentals, terminology and classroom training concluding with the AORN exam, followed by clinical rotations throughout the OR specialty areas. The Periop 101 training program is a full-time position. Training for the program will be on day shift, however, your permanent OR Specialty Team assignment and shift will not be determined until the end of the preceptorship. Once assigned, RNs will be required to comply with the weekend, holiday and on call requirements of the department.
