About The Position

Under the direction of a Radiologist, Technical Director, or the Nurse Manager, this position exists to provide quality nursing care including sedation. The nurse should be qualified and prepared to handle all unexpected emergencies that occur during any radiological procedure. As needed, will be required to work independently. May perform other job-related duties as necessary for the efficient operation of SDMI.

Requirements

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada.
  • ACLS, BCLS, and PALS Certified.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of radiation protection and contrast administration side effects.
  • Areas where the Nurse will function daily are general diagnostic in special procedures and CT biopsy.
  • Ability to demonstrate mature judgment, initiative and proficiency in nursing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and without direct supervision.
  • Must be able to hold arterial pressure in the event of an emergency.
  • Needs critical thinking skills to assess the patient’s condition and provide any necessary nursing interventions.
  • Thorough knowledge and skill in administration, side effects and complications of mild sedation medication.
  • Basic knowledge and skill in the care/placement of IV catheters, chest ports, chest tubes, drains and urinary catheters.
  • Thorough knowledge about infection control protocols.
  • Demonstrate evidence of emotional and physical well-being to safely perform any of the duties and responsibilities as set forth in this job description with respect to all age groups.
  • Computer literate.
  • If a per diem Nurse, a requirement of availability to work one to two shifts per week as needed for coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality nursing care including sedation.
  • Handle unexpected emergencies during radiological procedures.
  • Work independently as needed.
  • Maintain clinical competency by attending all required in-service and other continuing education programs.
  • Comply with universal precaution standards.
  • Assess patient's condition and provide necessary nursing interventions.
  • Give clear, concise discharge instructions and information to the patient/visitors.
  • Communicate with people of various backgrounds and education levels.
  • Manage daily assignments to complete tasks in a timely manner while paying attention to details and accuracy.
  • Work professionally with patience, tact and courtesy to handle patients, visitors and co-workers.
  • Perform nursing duties as related to the job.
  • Complete an occurrence report within 24 hours if involved in or responding to an event/occurrence/risk.
  • Perform delegated functions as appropriate to the position within the established standards, policies and procedures of the Radiology Department.
  • Perform nursing duties as related to the job.
  • Perform defibrillation or cardioversion as required in an emergency situation.
  • Monitor vital signs and report to the Radiologist any abnormal values or change in patient status.
  • Utilize supplies and equipment effectively.
  • Report all pertinent concise information, accomplish timely charting and appropriately report job-related problems to supervisory personnel.
  • Confirm that all patient paperwork is in order and accounted for.
  • Actively seek out and accept feedback from peers.
  • Perform other nursing duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.
