About The Position

This role involves providing nursing care to pediatric patients in an acute care facility. The Registered Nurse (RN) will utilize the nursing process to care for patients, maintaining accurate and current patient records. Responsibilities include assessing patients' physical, psychological, and social dimensions, developing discharge plans, and communicating pertinent data to allied patient care providers. The RN will also demonstrate proficiency in the charge nurse role, computerized nursing informatics, and serve as a resource person for patient care, orientation, and staff teaching. Participation in unit staff meetings, mandatory education programs, and identification of aspects of care for patient monitoring and evaluation are expected. Adherence to safety and blood/body fluid policies, assessment of personal learning needs, and documentation of professional development are crucial. The RN will stay updated on techniques and regulations appropriate to the age of the patient served, show willingness to participate in Nursing Committees, and represent the hospital positively in the community and internally by maintaining confidentiality and marketing services. Providing service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers is essential. Other work-related duties may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must read, write and communicate in English
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Basic Life Support Certification required
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention) within 3 months of new position and must renew annually
  • Successful passage of CCH’s Pharmacology exam
  • Recent Pediatric experience within 2 years in an acute care facility

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Properly utilizes the nursing process in caring for patients by maintaining relevant, accurate and current patient records as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
  • Provides documentation of assessment of the patient throughout the Hospital admission including physical, psychological, social dimensions and discharge plans.
  • Summarizes assessment data and initiate plan of care with communication of pertinent data to allied patient care providers as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
  • Understands, assumes, and demonstrates proficiency in the role of charge nurse.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems).
  • Assumes role of resource person regarding patient care, orientation and teaching staff.
  • Participates in at least four-unit staff meetings per year and attends mandatory education programs.
  • Participates in identification of the aspects of care for the patient, indicators used to monitor the quality and appropriateness of care, and the evaluation of that care.
  • Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.
  • Assesses personal learning development needs.
  • Maintains documentation of current and ongoing professional development activities.
  • Regularly up-dates knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the age of the patient served.
  • Shows a willingness to participate on Nursing Committees.
  • Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters and by presenting the hospital in a manner that will best market the services provided.
  • Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.
  • Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested his/her immediate supervisor.
