About The Position

The Pediatric Intermediate Care Unit (PIMC) provides intermediate-level care for medical/surgical patients aged 0-18 years, excluding obstetric patients. Populations served include non-ICU Neurosurgical, Video EEG and spectrum scan Peritoneal Dialysis, chronic trach/ventilated patients, select hyperbilirubinemia, select cardiac surgery, and research patients. This includes complex post-operative patients such as orthopedic spine patients, craniotomies, and bladder augmentations. The PIMC nursing team provides care that mimics a step-down intensive care unit. Patients may have multiple organ system failures and range from 1 day old to 18 years old (sometimes up to 22 years old if still followed by pediatric physicians). The PIMC admits patients from various locations and service lines and facilitates transfers within Doernbecher for patients requiring intermediate-level nursing care not available on their assigned units, such as patients on chronic home ventilation admitted for routine urology surgery.
