Evaluates and implements the aspects of the organization’s overall plan for patient safety that involves any aspects of patient risk, both within the ministry as well as the clinic setting. Focuses on patient safety priorities as defined by Trinity Health and Saint Alphonsus. Provides facilitation and consultation to Nursing leadership and is an active participant in the Nursing Council structure. The Patient Safety Coordinator communicates regularly with the board (governance) and senior administrative leadership; the position is a primary point of contact of the integrated patient safety program.

Requirements

Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse.
Bachelor's degree in nursing required.

Nice To Haves

Experience as a program coordinator, in a nursing leadership position or as an educator preferred.
Basic database development, data display and analysis preferred.
Knowledge of evidence-based practice methodology preferred.

Responsibilities

Participates in the development of the organization’s patient safety strategic plan as it pertains to safe nursing practice.
Develops and provides education and mentoring to Saint Alphonsus' Nursing Teams.
Participates in unit-based meetings, and other committees/meetings that align with patient safety initiatives.
Makes frequent rounds on the nursing units/clinics to include the four hospitals and ambulatory sites.
Consult with nursing and inter-disciplinary teams to identify patient safety opportunities.
Observe and evaluate practice/process change progress.
Provide just-in-time training and answer questions.
Conducts audits or other data collection methods to evaluate progress on outcome or process measures.
Maintains databases on process and outcome metrics.
Displays, analyzes, and communicates findings related to nursing quality and patient safety.
Maintains compliance with Joint Commission standards.
Identifies evidence-based practice related to patient safety initiatives and assimilates evidence-based practice into current processes.
Self-directed and professional with critical thinking skills.
Exercises judgment and tactful discussion of clinical quality and safety issues.
