The RN - PACU position at Cincinnati Children's is a full-time role requiring 40 weekly hours. This position is part of the Liberty PACU department and operates on a day shift schedule. The role involves following professional practice standards, questioning current practices, and seeking information to improve patient care. It also includes assisting in the development of peers through precepting and knowledge sharing, utilizing self-appraisal for competence assurance, and coaching/mentoring others. The position requires an understanding of systems thinking within the healthcare environment to anticipate patient and family needs and utilize resources effectively. Inclusion is a key aspect, involving consideration of patient values, cultural differences, and supporting colleagues in ethical and clinical issues. The role demands strong clinical judgment, including collecting and interpreting complex patient data, making clinical judgments based on the overall picture, and recognizing patterns and trends. Documentation of the plan of care, care delivered, and patient/family outcomes is essential, as is responding to subtle patient/family changes with compassion and tailoring care to individual needs. Promoting a healing environment, ensuring safety throughout transitions, and recognizing death as a potential outcome are also critical. The role requires integrating age-specific concepts into patient care, using self-management support, developing care goals through partnerships, and employing teach-back strategies. Coordination of education with the healthcare team and integration of strategies to support patient/family adaptation to the home environment are also part of the responsibilities.
