A Pre op/PACU nurse prepares patients for surgery by completing assessments, verifying medical history, and ensuring they are physically and emotionally ready for anesthesia. After surgery, they monitor patients as they wake from anesthesia, manage pain and vital signs, and watch closely for complications to ensure a safe recovery. PACU/ Preop Nurses are expert communicators and collaborators. They work alongside the physician, other RNs, and medical staff, keeping them informed of any changing circumstances during the patient’s recovery. They are also responsible for communicating with the patient and their family on proper post-op care, such as when to take medications and what to do if they experience pain.
